ABDUL RIZAL BIN ABDUL GHAFFARPROJECT MANAGER / TECHNO-COMMERCIAL MANAGER

Mr. Abdul Rizal bin Abd Ghaffar (Rizal) has been in the Oil & Gas industry for more than 20 years. A project development and delivery specialist he has had various technical, commercial and managerial assignments that span the Upstream and Downstream petroleum sectors in both asset owner and technical consultancy roles.

In early 2019 Rizal took up his most recent role of Techno-Commercial Manager (reporting to the CEO) of Reach Energy Berhad (REB) an Exploration & Production (E&P) company listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (Bursa Malaysia). This is Rizal’s second stint with REB having previously served as a Senior Project Manager from 2015 to 2016 during the early stages of REB’s listing on Bursa Malaysia as a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC), working as part of a team of highly experienced Oil & Gas professionals dedicated to securing REB’s maiden asset via the completion of its Qualifying Acquisition (QA). During the last many years since 2017,  Rizal has been working as an Independent Consultant to private clients seeking to invest in the energy industry and had the opportunity to not only work on petroleum sector projects but also renewable energy projects.

During the period 2010 to 2014, after nearly a decade in roles with petroleum sector asset owners, Rizal gained valuable exposure to the services provider side of the industry by taking up senior roles in an international technical consultancy and later with a Malaysian listed Oil & Gas services provider. Prior to this, from 2007 to 2009 Rizal was a pioneering member of team of handpicked Oil & Gas specialists recruited into a private Oil & Gas venture set up by a large Malaysian group to pursue Upstream and Downstream development opportunities in the Middle East and South East Asia. As Project Manager for Downstream Projects, Rizal led a team of technical, legal and commercial experts tasked with the development of refinery and petrochemical projects.

Rizal started his career as an engineer with Royal Dutch Shell having won a prestigious Shell scholarship to pursue his undergraduate degree. Early in his career Rizal spent time in the design office, supervised construction and commissioning of new facilities and was also responsible for the maintenance of existing facilities.  Rizal then progressed to marketing planning and business development roles eventually serving Shell for a total of 8 years from 1999 to 2007.

Rizal holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Systems and a Master of Science in Finance.
