Tengku Shariffudin bin Tengku Zainuddin, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming, USA in 1980 and MBA from the University of Edinburgh in 1986. He is a petroleum engineer with a wealth of experience in the oil and gas industry. He has in-depth experience in the oil industry. He has worked in national oil corporations and multi-national oil companies, including Petronas, Shell, BP, Qatar Petroleum and Dong Energy. Within these organisations, his work experience covered several countries such as Malaysia, the Netherlands, Russia, Qatar, Denmark and Angola.
He began his career in Petronas in 1980. Here he worked on the Duyong gas field development, the first major field development undertaken by Petronas Carigali. He later worked on the initial stage of the Dulang oil field development study before going to the University of Edinburgh for the MBA program in 1985-1986 under Petronas sponsorship. After completing his MBA, he was assigned to Petronas Carigali Planning and Budget department and later to Petronas Strategic Planning team to carry out the Petronas corporate strategy study.
In 1991, he left Petronas group to join Otis/Halliburton as a Division Engineer. In 1994, he joined Sarawak Shell Berhad in Miri as a production technologist. He worked on the M1/M3 gas fields development and the Central Luconia gas fields production enhancement project. In 1997, he was assigned to Shell Gas and Power Division in Kuala Lumpur. He was cross-posted to Shell in the Netherlands in 2002 where he led an integrated team responsible for optimization of the gas and oil production in the west Netherlands area and development of new fields. In 2008, he was posted to work on the Astokh oil field development in Sakhalin, Russia.
He left Shell to join Qatar Petroleum in 2009 as a senior petroleum engineer responsible for overseeing the operations of the PSA partners. He then joined Denmark’s Dong Energy in 2010 as the senior production technologist. He re-joined Shell in the Netherlands in 2011. In 2013, he took up a new challenge by joining BP in Angola (deepwater environment) as the senior well integrity engineer. After 3 years in Angola, he left BP and decided to put his energy, knowledge and experience in a new challenge.
